Prisoner Re-Entry

One-Stop Logo
If you are an ex-offender in need of services, your One-Stop Career Center can help.

Each of NJ’s local One-Stops has trained staff available to assist you. They focus on a particular list of employers who have hired ex-offenders before, or have indicated that they are interested in doing so.

Available employer incentives are utilized, including the Federal Bonding Program (FBP), On-the-Job Training and Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) in order to encourage employer participation.

Referrals to labor demand occupations in specific fields also improve your chances of employment. We partner with the construction industry, (school construction projects) and union-sponsored job training programs, as well as the automobile industry, which has welcomed appropriate candidates into its training programs for mechanic assistants and related jobs.

There have been a number of efforts to remove some of the more common barriers to you and others through driver's license restoration, career connections efforts with community mental health programs, job search preparation classes in several half-way house facilities, and community release programs under Parole supervision.

The Department of Labor & Workforce Development (LWD) has partnered with our Department of Corrections to bring literacy Learning Link resources into prison and half-way facilities, so that these vital pre-employment skills can be provided before the final stage transition period, and have made slots available within One-Stop locations for those who wish to continue these courses after their release. Please contact your local One-Stop Career Center for more information.
