You may apply for family leave insurance benefits if you are
- bonding with a newborn child in the first year,
- bonding with an adopted child in the first year of placement, or
- caring for a family member with a serious health condition.
You may receive up to 6 weeks of benefits in a 12-month period.
New Jersey's family leave insurance does not guarantee job protection. Ask your employer if you are eligible for benefits under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which contains some job protections.
