Dec-21-16 Christie Administration Continues “Season of Service”
Department of Labor and Workforce Development Staff Serves Hot Meals in Trenton
TRENTON, N.J., December 22, 2016 – Officials from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development served dinner yesterday at Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) in honor of Governor Christie’s “Season of Service” initiative.
“It’s important, especially at this time of year, that we each take a moment to aid those in our communities who could benefit from a helping hand,” said Acting Labor Commissioner Aaron R. Fichtner, Ph.D. “For more than 30 years, the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen has offered critical food assistance to Trenton residents. We were honored to assist them during the busy holiday season.”
Acting Commissioner Fichtner was joined by Chief of Staff Gregory Townsend and other senior members of Department of Labor and Workforce Development staff who served hot meals to Trenton residents in need.
The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen is a private, non-sectarian, charitable organization that provides more than 3,000 free meals per week to feed those who are hungry in the Trenton area and offers programs that encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of its patrons. TASK accepts volunteers for a variety of on- and off-site activities, including meal service, in which teams of up to 12 volunteers can sign up to serve lunch or dinner at one of their two Trenton locations.
This is the sixth year of the Season of Service celebration in which Christie Administration officials volunteer their time and highlight service opportunities around the state serving New Jerseyans in need. This year’s service activities are focused on assisting the Garden State’s most vulnerable, including those impacted by addiction, veterans and the homeless.
