        -News Release-

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Sept. 17, 2012 – Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and Commissioner Harold J. Wirths of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development addressed delegates of the New Jersey State Association of Pipe Trades today during the union’s biennial convention at the Revel Resort and Casino.

Speaking before approximately 100 union delegates, Commissioner Wirths highlighted the efforts of Governor Chris Christie’s administration to put people to work and bring integrity back to Trenton. He cited the Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s proactive approach to reduce the amount of fraud cases in the unemployment insurance program.

“We have an obligation to protect the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund from fraudsters. We want to ensure those dollars go to the people who are truly eligible to collect and who need that safety net until they can find another job,” said Commissioner Wirths.

Commissioner Wirths also spoke of programs launched by the Department to get New Jersey’s unemployed people back to work, such as the website Jobs4Jersey.com and its most popular feature, the robust job-search engine called OnRamp. The free service links job-seekers to employers by using a skills-match approach, not mere job titles.

More than 130,000 people have posted resumes with OnRamp, and more than 2,150 employers have created accounts with the free service to search for new employees.
