        -News Release-

SPARTA, N.J., February 8, 2012 —New Jersey Labor Commissioner Harold J. Wirths recently addressed students in the New Jersey SkillsUSA program during a conference held at Sussex Technical High School.

Commissioner Wirths emphasized the importance of New Jersey students gaining skills that will help them to be successful after graduating high school to go on to college or to begin a successful work career.

Senator Steven Oroho joined Commissioner Wirths at the event that focused on preparing students for an upcoming statewide competition in March that will test their skills in categories including culinary arts, automotive technology, cosmetology, Web design, and Welding against other New Jersey SkillsUSA students.

Commissioner Wirths enjoyed the opportunity to visit with the students in the program and observe firsthand how New Jersey SkillsUSA prepares students for success by offering real-world experiences.

“This administration is passionate about job training,” said Wirths. “And we want to make sure that New Jersey remains globally competitive by maintaining a highly-skilled and educated work force.”

SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations and for further education.
