
Jan-10-12 NEW JERSEY VETERANS TO TRAIN FOR CAREERS IN METAL PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

The pilot training program will prepare New Jersey veterans to enter careers in the metal product manufacturing industry with employers in the Garden State.
“We recognize that our returning veterans have skills and experiences that can parlay into successful civilian careers,” said Commissioner Wirths. “My department is committed to providing the 17,000 unemployed veterans in our state with the resources they need to find employment to support themselves and their families.”
The program runs 12 weeks and requires 288 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction, including onsite visits to metal manufacturers. Classroom training takes place at Middlesex County College in Edison.
Successful graduates of this program will receive a College Certificate of Competency and sit for the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Certification Exam for Measurement, Materials, & Safety Level I.
Currently a dozen employers have indicated that they are interested in hiring program graduates. The minimum starting salary for program graduates is $12 per hour, plus benefits. A higher starting salary is possible depending on past experience of the participant.
