Deputy Commissioner Constable participated on a panel that discussed “Business and Politics Connecting with the African American Community.” Deputy Commissioner Constable highlighted the initiatives of Governor Christie’s administration to improve economic development in New Jersey.
Additionally, the deputy commissioner talked about specific employer incentive programs administered through the Department of Labor, including the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), which gives tax credits to employers who hire persons with significant barriers to employment such as welfare recipients, certain veterans, those previously incarcerated and individuals with disabilities.
He also highlighted the New Jersey Builders Utilization Initiative for Labor Diversity (NJ BUILD), which facilitates training in the construction trades for women and minorities.
“At the very start, this administration set out to be more responsive to the needs of business,” said Deputy Commissioner Constable. “My department has numerous programs available to help New Jersey retain its commitment to our skilled workforce and to make the cost of doing business in New Jersey more affordable.”
Tracye McDaniel, the newly appointed president and chief executive officer of Choose New Jersey, gave the keynote address at the event sponsored by the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. Choose New Jersey is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and nurture economic growth throughout the State of New Jersey. That includes making New Jersey’s most distressed cities engines for growth and opportunity.
Deputy Commissioner Constable and Ms. McDaniel were joined at the event by Assemblyman Herb Conway, Jr.; Westampton Councilman C. Andre Daniels; Carlos Perez, head of New Jersey Charter Schools, and Bishop David G. Evans, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church.
