October 1, 2009 – Highlighting Governor Jon S. Corzine’s commitment to ensuring that every child in New Jersey has health care coverage, New Jersey Labor Commissioner David J. Socolow encouraged customers at the Gloucester County One-Stop Career Center in Thorofare and the Camden County One-Stop Career Center in Camden, to apply for subsidized health insurance for their children and families through NJ FamilyCare.
“New Jersey is absolutely setting the standard nationwide for innovative and progressive Children’s Health Insurance Program enrollment efforts,” Governor Corzine said. “Through our inter-departmental coordination and efforts, New Jersey is taking every opportunity we can to reach all eligible children and the results support our success.”
NJ FamilyCare is a state and federally subsidized health insurance program for children and working families providing free or low-cost health care for income-eligible families. Under Governor Corzine’s leadership, cabinet agencies have been working together to promote and expand coverage under NJ FamilyCare to see that every child in New Jersey has the health insurance they deserve. Since 2006, nearly 100,000 more children have received health care coverage through the program.
Commissioner Socolow highlighted various ways the Department of Labor and Workforce Development has informed its customers about NJ FamilyCare, including easy access to apply for the program on the Department’s public-access computers; with messages on unemployment insurance benefit checks and letters and even on the phone system when workers call in to claim unemployment insurance benefits.
Commissioner Socolow said, “Health care coverage is so important to working families particularly when workers are between jobs. And under the leadership of Governor Corzine, we are working together with other agencies to expand coverage under NJ FamilyCare to all children and working families.”
Commissioner Socolow encouraged workers to check their eligibility and apply for this important coverage online at online at www.njfamilycare.org or by calling NJ FamilyCare's toll-free number, 1-800-701-0710.
