TRENTON, July 24, 2009 – The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development reminded New Jersey employers that the minimum wage rises to $7.25 per hour as of July 24, 2009.
Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the federal minimum wage will be $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009. In cases where an employee is subject to both state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher minimum wage.
Under New Jersey Law (N.J.S.A 34:11-56a4) nearly all employees in New Jersey are covered by the state minimum wage and so will be covered by the new higher federal minimum wage.
