Safety & Health

The Division of Public Safety and Occupational Safety and Health enforces laws and regulations that provide for safe and healthful working conditions throughout New Jersey's public and private sector.

The Division oversees licensing requirements for asbestos, boiler operations and cranes. The safety compliance unit oversees mines, explosives, fireworks, retail gas dispensing and model rocketry. Free health and safety consultation services are provided through the Division for New Jersey's public and private employers.
 


Programs and Services
The Office of Asbestos Control and Licensing requires asbestos abatement companies to obtain New Jersey state-issued licenses and individuals performing asbestos work to obtain asbestos worker or supervisor performance identification permits. More

The Bureau of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Compliance promotes safety through the uniformity of construction, installation, repair, maintenance, and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels. More

The Office of Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) performs safety inspections of public employer worksites in order to protect the safety and health of public employees. More

The Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) On-Site Consultation program provides free consultation services to public employers and helps provide a safe work environment for their employees. More

The Occupational Safety and Health On-Site Consultation program provides free On-Site Safety and Health Consultation services to private sector employers. Trained staff identify safety and health violations of the OSHA Standards and work with employers to improve their internal occupational safety and health management systems. More

The Occupational Safety Training unit provides free safety and health training programs to both private and public sector employers. This unit also oversees the Mine Safety Education Program for New Jersey's mining industry. More
Programs and Services (cont.)
The Safety Compliance Unit oversees Mines, Explosives, Crane Operators, Fireworks, Retail Gasoline Dispensing and Model Rocketry. The unit regulates and inspects all mining activities and the use of explosives for any purpose; issues licenses to crane operators; enforces the Retail Gasoline Dispensing Act protecting the public from hazards which could arise from improper use of gasoline pumping equipment; and regulates the manufacture, storage, off-road transportation, registration, sale and public display of fireworks.

The New Jersey State Industrial Safety Committee advises industries of safety promotions and conducts occupational safety and health training seminars to both public and private sectors. More

The Governor's Annual Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program is based on the calendar year with Recognition and Group Awards presented to those with a yearly lost time incident rate of 3.0 or less. More
File a Complaint
Any public employee may file a complaint with the Office of Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health. More
Licenses and Permits
The Division issues various licenses and permits such as Crane Operators License, Explosives Permits, Asbestos License, and Boiler Operators License. More
