Family Leave During Unemployment - Wage Requirements
To establish a valid claim, you must have earned a certain amount of wages in New Jersey covered employment during your "base year period". The base year period is the first four calendar quarters of the last five completed calendar quarters before the date of your claim. You must have either:
• worked 20 calendar weeks in the base year, each being a week in which you had New Jersey earnings of $165 or more; or
• earned $8,300 or more during the base year.
If you do not have 20 base weeks or total earnings of at least $8,300 during the regular base year period, you may still have a valid claim if you meet that criteria in one of the following:
- Alternate Base Period #1: The four most recently completed calendar quarters before the date of claim.
- Alternate Base Period #2: The three most recently completed calendar quarters prior to the date of the claim and the weeks in the filing quarter up to the date of claim.
