Family Leave During Unemployment - Wage Requirements

To establish a valid claim, you must have earned a certain amount of wages in New Jersey covered employment during your "base period".  The base period is the first four calendar quarters of the last five completed calendar quarters before the date of your claim.

You must have earned either:

  • $145 or more per week during 20 calendar weeks in the base period, or
  • $7,300 or more during the base period

If you do not have 20 base weeks or total earnings of at least $7,300 during the regular base period, you may still have a valid claim if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Alternate Base Period #1: The four most recently completed calendar quarters before the date of claim.

  • Alternate Base Period #2: The three most recently completed calendar quarters prior to the date of the claim and the weeks in the filing quarter up to the date of claim.
