Family Leave Insurance

Important Tax Information:

  • New Jersey Family Leave Insurance Benefits are taxable for Federal Income Tax purposes. Individuals who received State Plan Family Leave Insurance or Family Leave During Unemployment Benefits will receive form 1099-G that lists the family leave insurance benefits that were received in 2009. The 1099-G will be mailed before January 31, 2010. Note: An individual may receive more than one 1099-G if he/she received benefits from multiple programs.

  • Workers who overpaid Family Leave Insurance contributions may NOT take credit for the overpayment on the NJ1040. Individuals can request a refund by downloading a refund application. For additional information, write the Division of Employer Accounts, Worker Refund Unit, PO Box 910, Trenton, NJ 08625-0910 or call them at 609-633-6400.

Program Information
The New Jersey Temporary Disability Benefits law provides up to six (6) weeks of Family Leave Insurance benefits to covered individuals to bond with newborn or newly adopted children and to care for sick family members.  More
