Tax Information
When you apply for benefits, you can choose to have 10% of your benefits withheld for federal income tax.
After the end of each calendar year, Form 1099-G will be sent to you to use when filing your federal income tax return. This form lists the total of any New Jersey State Family Leave Insurance or Family Leave During Unemployment benefits received that calendar year. This information is also given to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
If you receive Family Leave Insurance benefits from an approved private plan, you employer will provide you with the necessary information for federal income tax preparation.
If you overpay Family Leave Insurance contributions, you may NOT take credit for the overpayment on the NJ1040. You may request a refund by downloading a refund application. For additional information, write the Division of Employer Accounts, Worker Refund Unit, PO Box 910, Trenton, NJ 08625-0910 or call them at 609-633-6400.
